FABBS Requests Support for NSF

Political Science Research on the Chopping Block

As you may have heard, when the appropriations bill funding the National Science Foundation was considered on the floor of the U.S. House recently, an amendment was attached that gutted funding for all political science research at the agency, as well as funding for climate change education. This is an opportunity for the entire science community to express its concern about Congress eliminating any area of science, thereby substituting the merit review process with politics. FABBS (Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences) is seeking broad support to oppose this amendment when the NSF appropriations bill is taken up in the Senate, likely in the next few weeks.

There is an active Action Alert on this matter issued jointly by FABBS and the American Psychological Association. FABBS is encouraging SIOP members who are interested in joining in support of NSF's merit review process and in opposition to the targeted elimination of any area of science to send a letter to their Senators, a simple task that requires only your home address and a few clicks of the mouse: http://capwiz.com/fabbs/home/.
