SIOP Foundation Launches 1st Ever Visionary Circle

The SIOP Foundation, Inc. launches their first ever Visionary Circle to fund innovative research on industrial and organizational psychology science and practice that will have a lasting impact in the workplace. Operated in collaboration with the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Inc. (SIOP), the SIOP Visionary Circle is a charitable program of the SIOP Foundation, and the program’s goal is to secure at least $100,000 to fund a grant in 2020.

The Visionary Circle initiative is the single largest campaign the SIOP Foundation has undertaken to provide transformational funding to the research that seeks to change the future world of work.  Its purpose is to serve as a dependable and renewable source of grant funding for I-O research and development. According to Milt Hakel, SIOP Foundation Board President, “I am thrilled with the response that we’ve seen from those joining the Visionary Circle already.  The pacesetter campaign among SIOP leaders, has secured $25,000 and the momentum is growing as we reach out now to our 10,000 members and the greater community.”

Any individual can become a SIOP Visionary Circle donor with a minimum donation of $1,000.  At the 2020 SIOP Conference, Visionary Circle donors will be invited to review the proposals of the finalists and vote for the proposal that will have the greatest impact in the field.  Donations are 100% tax deductible and can be made at http://my.siop.org/SIOP-Visionary-Circle/Join.

The average US worker spends one-third of their life at work The SIOP Visionary Circle seeks to provide sustainable funding for improving the workplace through an innovative grant process that will be announced this April at the SIOP annual conference in National Harbor, Maryland.

Today’s workforce faces great challenges, including the changing nature of work, sexual harassment, the impact of technology on work performance and well-being, and a multigenerational workforce. These workplace issues stretch into the culture at large and demand the best thinking, collaboration, and collective attention.

The expertise that SIOP members apply to strengthen employee health, retention and ultimately the bottom line is needed today more than ever before.  “I am proud of the leadership of the SIOP Foundation Board for bringing this innovative campaign forward and I invite all SIOP members who are able to join me as a Visionary Circle donor,” Dr. Talya Bauer, SIOP President, Cameron Professor of Management, Department of Psychology, Portland State University.

SIOP is the premier membership organization for those practicing and teaching I-O psychology. While an independent organization with its own governance, SIOP also represents Division 14 of the American Psychological Association and is an organizational affiliate of the Association for Psychological Science.

I-O psychology is a dynamic and growing field that encompasses workplace issues at the individual and organizational level. I-O psychologists apply research that improves the well-being and performance of people and the organizations that employ them. This involves everything from workforce planning, employee selection, and leader development to studying job attitudes and job motivation, implementing work teams, and facilitating organizational change.

Since 1996, The SIOP Foundation has provided financial support for the advancement of the field of Industrial-Organizational (I-O) psychology. Its resources further the outreach of both the practice and the science of I-O psychology so that those in this field can play an increasingly vital role in fostering a productive and prosperous workplace.
