#SIOP18 Recreational Activities

SIOP 2018 has top-notch workshops, panels, discussions, and exhibits, and there’s fun around every corner! This year, take part in a brewery and distillery tour, the 26th Frank Landy 5k Fun Run, and receptions galore.

The fun continues outside the conference and some members have shared their Chicago plans on social media. They include exploring Chicago’s rich entertainment district while singing along to the Broadway smash hit, Hamilton, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs while enjoying a hot dog at Wrigley Field. Take in Chicago’s many tourist attractions like Millennium Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Skydeck Chicago, complete with glass balconies, boasting 360-degree views spanning up to 50 miles. If you share entertainment information on Twitter, be sure to add the hashtag #SIOP18.  Whova, the SIOP Conference also offers an easy way to coordinate with fellow concert attendees. There’s a community board for Social Activities or Dinner Plans., and you can create your own bulletin board as well.

Conference organizers have also arranged to have The Barrel Run, a unique brewery and distillery tour bus, provide a tour of Old Irving Brewery, On Tour Brewery, and Chicago Distilling Company on April 18th from 1:30 to 5:30 pm. The tour will stop at each location for 45-60 minutes. That’s just enough time to enjoy a flight of beer or liquor at each location and food, which is included in the $80 event fee. The tour bus will pick-up and drop off tour goers at the Sheraton Grand Chicago. Find details here.

On the morning of April 20th, participants will have the opportunity to run or walk in a SIOP tradition, the 26th Annual Frank Landy 5k Fun Run. The event kicks off at 7:00 am, adjacent to DuSable Harbor, less than a mile from the Sheraton Grand Chicago. The entry fee is $30. Registered runners receive a race t-shirt, which will be available for pick up at any time before Saturday at 10:00 am. Already registered for the conference? Add the Fun Run to your plans now! More information here.

SIOP committees have also planned many receptions for multiple themes. Convention attendees can take part in the Welcome Reception, the Women’s Inclusion Network Reception, the Networking Reception and many more. Our closing reception will satisfy both stomach and ear, featuring Chicago Culture in food and music. See a schedule of receptions.
