SIOP Seeks Conference Reviewers

by SIOP Administrative Office

The SIOP 2018 Program Committee is requesting SIOP members’ help to build a top-notch, peer-reviewed conference program in Chicago!

Signing up to serve as a reviewer is easy and quick (less than a minute). Simply follow steps 1-2-3 on the reviewer signup page.

The reviewer signup deadline is September 13, 2017 (5:00 PM US EDT).

The review process is designed to be quick and efficient. And, for the first year ever, reviewers can view ratings and comments provided by other reviewers (following the review deadline). We hope you find this a valuable tool for developing your skill as a reviewer.

If you have volunteered to review in the past, thanks for your continued partnership. If you’re a first-time volunteer reviewer, welcome aboard, and have fun!

Who is eligible to review?

All current SIOP Fellows, Members, Associates, Affiliates, and retired members are eligible to serve as reviewers. Student Affiliates who have presented as a first author at a prior SIOP conference and have defended their dissertation proposals are also eligible.

Reviewer Benefits:

  • Sincere gratitude from your fellow SIOP Members
  • The intrinsic reward of serving your profession and professional community
  • Recognition in the printed conference program and on the conference website
  • A badge ribbon at the conference to signify your contribution as a reviewer

Online reviewer registration process:

To volunteer by September 13, 2017, please go to the reviewer signup form on the SIOP Web site at http://my.siop.org/Meetings/Reviewer-Signup, or navigate to Meetings > Reviewer Signup from the mySIOP.org homepage.

How does the review process work?

The conference review process is conducted entirely online.

  1. Reviewers will receive papers to review in early October and will submit reviews about 3 weeks later (you’ll have no more than 5 papers to review).
  2. To reduce your reviewer workload, we will aim to evenly distribute session types across reviewers. This will prevent any single reviewer from exclusively receiving session types that are a bit more time consuming to review than others (e.g., posters).
  3. The more reviewers, the more distributed the workload! Please encourage your friends and colleagues to sign up!

What is expected of reviewers?

Although comments to authors are extremely helpful and expected, they primarily serve a developmental purpose for authors. Only your quantitative ratings are used to make acceptance decisions. Thus, a lengthy review is not necessary. Most reviews take 20-45 minutes to complete. We will make every attempt to send you papers that fall within your content area(s) of expertise of interest along with a review guidance/advice document to facilitate the process for providing high-quality reviews.

Technical questions about the reviewer registration system or process should be addressed to Larry Nader in the SIOP Administrative Office at lnader@siop.org. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact 2018 SIOP Program Chair Tracy Kantrowitz at

Thank you in advance for lending your expertise to serve SIOP and our profession in this critical role!
