Jack in the Box, Inc. Named 2016 HRM Impact Award Winner

SHRM, SIOP and Their Foundations Recognize Exemplary Evidence-based HR Management

SIOP and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), along with their foundations, have named Jack in the Box, Inc. as recipient of the 2016 Human Resource Management Impact Award.

The HRM Impact Award is an international honor given by SIOP, SHRM, the SHRM Foundation and the SIOP Foundation that recognizes organizations with outstanding evidence-based HR management practices. The award promotes HR practices and initiatives that have been measured and determined successful through evidence-based, data-driven analyses.

“This award recognizes those organizations that are using strong evidence to back up their HR practices,” said Sara L. Rynes, chair of this year’s HRM Impact Award Committee. “These organizations exemplify the gold standard in the use of evidence-based HR strategies and practices to foster organizational success. We are proud to honor Jack in the Box and to highlight their best practices.”

Jack in the Box, Inc., a national fast-food restaurant, was chosen as this year’s winner for its project, “Talent Analytics in Service of Organizational Purpose: Nourishing the Pursuit of Dreams.” During a decade in which Jack in the Box transformed its business model, management partnered with the Metrus Group to better understand the drivers of how well employees at all levels were aligned with the business strategy and customer value proposition, whether employees had the proper tools, training and information to facilitate their performance, and how engaged and committed employees were to the business.

The restaurant franchise used a process called Alignment, Capabilities and Engagement (ACE), which helped its management team understand how human capital measurements can, and do, predict critical drivers of business outcomes. ACE results have consistently revealed that restaurants with higher scores outperform those with lower scores on virtually every operational and financial measure, including higher sales and lower turnover.

The award will be presented at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta on Friday, Oct. 21, during SIOP’s Leading Edge Consortium, “Talent Analytics: Data Science to Drive People Decisions and Business Impact.” The winner will also be honored at the SHRM Volunteer Leaders’ Summit Nov. 17-19 in Washington, D.C.

(Hank) Jackson, SHRM’s president and CEO. “In their effective use of evidence-based measurement and management, they set a high standard for HR departments and leadership requirements of HR professionals everywhere.”

Finansbank A.S. and the Mayo Clinic were awarded 2016 HRM Impact Award Honorable Mentions.
