White House Social and Behavioral Sciences Team Seeking Fellows

by SIOP Administrative Office

The White House Social and Behavioral Sciences Team is seeking applicants for a 1-year fellowship in Washington, DC, beginning in October 2016. Applications are due Sunday, January 24, 2016.

According to the White House notice, “Fellows and Associate Fellows translate insights from the social and behavioral sciences into concrete recommendations on how to improve federal programs, policies, and operations.”  By working closely with federal agencies to identify opportunities and mechanisms to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of federal policies and programs, Fellows are vital to the implementation of the president’s recent Executive Order, Using Behavioral Science Insights to Better Serve the American People.

SIOP Fellow Lori Foster served on the inaugural SBST, applying her knowledge and experience as an I-O psychologist to the challenges explored by the team.  Over the next year, SBST plans to launch 20 new projects, enhancing and spreading the visibility of social and behavioral sciences across the federal government.  Projects range from improving unemployment insurance programs and supporting career preparation for military spouses to streamlining government forms for enrolling in benefits programs and ensuring children’s access to nutritious, low-cost, and free lunches.
