SIOP Provides Comments to White House Conference on Aging

by SIOP Administrative Office

In February, SIOP continued its engagement with the White House Conference on Aging (WHCOA).

This conference, which has been held almost every ten years since the 1960s, serves as an opportunity to discuss those issues that affect older Americans. This year’s conference selected retirement security, health aging, long-term services and supports, and elder justice as priorities.

With SIOP’s expertise in workforce issues, retirement security was a natural area for SIOP to submit comments and significantly contribute to the conference dialogue. In these comments, SIOP provided an overview of I-O’s connection to the workforce and the research implications for older Americans. Additionally, SIOP offered several recommendations, including inviting I-O experts to participate in the conference.

SIOP’s comments were sent to conference staff, as well as the WHCOA Executive Director. As more conference events continue throughout the the year, there will be additional opportunities for SIOP members to engage on these issues. The WHCOA website is still accepting comments should any SIOP members wish to submit thoughts on their own behalf.
