by SIOP Administrative Office

In conjunction with SIOP’s recent Leading Edge Consortium in Chicago, iLEAD at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) hosted three SIOP members October 16 for a student event that showcased how the science of I-O at three large global organizations can create positive impact on both the organization and its people at all levels.

During the event, titled “Science for a Smarter Workplace: Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Work at Pepsi, Google, and Intel,”  Allan Church spoke on leadership at Pepsi, showcasing LeAD, PepsiCo’s integrated multitier leadership assessment and development process to identify and confirm future potential and accelerate development of its talent throughout the entire leadership pipeline.

Michelle Donovan focused on managers with Google’s Project Oxygen that introduced managers to well-defined performance expectations, a new vocabulary for discussing management challenges, and a framework for manager development programs.

Alexis Fink talked about building Career Models, an integrated talent management system for all Intel employees that informs selection, performance appraisal, and learning and development strategies.

A total of 105 undergraduate business and MBA students attended the event, which consisted of short presentations by the speakers followed by a question-and-answer session. Attendees also received brochures and other educational materials from SIOP.
