Two Keynote Speakers to Present at 2014 SIOP Leading Edge Consortium

The global environment is shifting faster than ever before. Business objectives change frequently. Knowledge work is increasing, and organizations are more matrixed and interconnected.

With these new realities, leadership requirements are changing as well. For example, 31% of leaders are in newly created roles and all must be prepared to manage increasingly wide and frequently changing responsibilities. Despite significant time spent on high-potential development and succession management processes, only 28% of current leaders were pre-identified in a succession plan, and only 25% of organizations report they have the leadership bench they need, making succession management a foremost concern of today’s boards.*

At its 10th Annual Leading Edge Consortium, to be held October 17-18, 2014, at the Intercontinental Chicago O’Hare, SIOP is proud to present two keynote speakers whose experience and expertise in the field of succession management will provide attendees with knowledge and skills they can use to help solve the most pressing succession dilemmas and difficulties.

This year’s opening keynote speaker is Marc Effron, President of the Talent Strategy Group, and the closing keynote speaker is Morgan McCall, professor at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. Marc Effron

Marc Effron helps companies build better talent, faster. Marc helps the world's largest and most successful companies improve the quality and depth of their talent. His consulting work focuses on creating effective talent strategies and detailed talent management process designs, all using the One Page Talent Management approach – simplicity, accountability and transparency. With deep consulting and corporate talent management experience, Marc provides a highly practical, broadly informed perspective to his clients. Prior to forming The Talent Strategy Group, Marc served as Vice President, Global Talent Management for Avon Products, and started and led the Global Leadership Consulting Practice at consultancy Hewitt Associates. He was also Senior Vice President, Leadership Development for Bank of America and served as a political consultant and a staff assistant to a United States Congressman. Marc co-authored the Harvard Business Press best-selling book One Page Talent Management: eliminating complexity, adding value. He also co-authored Leading the Way, coedited Human Resources in the 21st Century and has written chapters in eight management and leadership books. He is a regular columnist for human resources publications worldwide. Marc is the founder and publisher of Talent Quarterly magazine, which raises the quality of dialogue about talent issues with serious, provocative and practical guidance from the world’s top management thought leaders. Marc is a sought after speaker on talent management and leadership topics by both corporations and conferences. He is widely quoted on talent issues in the business media and has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Influencers in HR. He earned a M.B.A. from the Yale University School of Management and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Washington. Marc founded and leads the New Talent Management Network, a non-profit HR networking and research organization that is now the world's largest talent management organization with more than 3,000 members.


Morgan McCall

Morgan McCall is a Professor of Management and Organization in the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.  His research on the development and derailment of executives has appeared in numerous articles and books, including the trilogy The Lessons of Experience, High Flyers, and Developing Global Executives, and most recently Using Experience to Develop Leadership Talent:  How Organizations Leverage On-The-Job Development for SIOP’s Professional Practice series (co-edited with Cynthia McCauley). He received the “Distinguished Professional Contributions Award” from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the Executive Development Roundtable’s Marion Gislason award for “Leadership in Executive Development,” and (with George Hollenbeck) the HR People and Strategy Walker Award for an “outstanding contribution to the People & Strategy journal.”  He has a B.S. degree with honors from Yale and a Ph.D. from Cornell, was Director of Research and a Senior Behavioral Scientist at the Center for Creative Leadership, and is a Fellow of SIOP.  At USC he teaches leadership-related courses in the MBA programs and for the Office of Executive Education.  He has worked with a number of companies over the years including 3M, Disney, Eaton, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, Nordstrom, Procter & Gamble, Toyota, and Yum! Brands.

The Leading Edge Consortium is devoted to topics that are core to effective succession management, such as how to:

  • Strategically align succession management with the organization’s goals and future direction, making it a business imperative
  • Effectively manage succession globally
  • Identify and develop high-potentials
  • Build talent pools that are strong, broad and diverse

This event includes lunch on Friday and Saturday, breaks, and a reception on Thursday evening. Registration fee is $495 on or before August 29, 2014. After the early registration deadline the cost is $575.
